Here's a feed for our sister site: Professors Coding Corner

October 20, 2014

If you have a webpage or a post that uses pictures, you may want to exhibit them without making your page look crowded. If you don’t want to use flash ( which is too “flashy” for some tastes ), there are several standard methods of doing this:

  • Use a Slide Show, which only requires space for one picture, since new pictures continually replace it, one at a time.

  • Or use a Gallery, which takes more space, but gives the viewer some control by requiring a click to change the picture in the central location.

As you can see, each of the standard methods for showing pictures has its disadvantages. In this post, I present a third way for you to exhibit your pictures – enlarge thumbnails. I use this to advantage when my webpage only has a few images to be enlarged. It uses no javascript, like the other methods – only HTML and CSS.

To see this script in action, just mouseover one of the thumbnails. If you like what you see, and would like to use this script on your own webpages, it’s available on my sister site, Professors Coding Corner. There are directions on how to use it, and it’s free.
